    Oceans_Restaurant

Oceans, a Mediterranean style seafood restaurant in the Mor shopping center, has reopened with its ocean-fresh seafood, oyster bar and daily specials for lunch and dinner.

At its location since 1995, this intimate European restaurant brings the Ocean to the desert offering fresh seafood prepared in classic Mediterranean and California styles. Dishes like bouillabaisse, a saffron vegetable broth swimming with shrimp, scallops, fresh whitefish, clams and mussels, is one of the most popular dishes. Add an 8-ounce lobster at market price for an additional treat.

From fresh caught swordfish, ahi tuna, salmon, fresh oysters, Chilean sea bass and catfish to sea scallops and sand dabs delicately sautéed in olive oil with wine, lemon and caper sauce, Oceans specializes in “fruit de Mer” prepared to show off each seafood to its innate best.

Owner Bakir Rizvanbegovic’s Yugoslavian heritage comes into play here with a keen understanding of the whole Mediterranean coastal region and its harmony with California’s coastal and cultural offerings. Pasta dishes that reiterate the best of both include the lobster ravioli with a saffron cream sauce; capellini tossed with clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops and calamari with a red sauce or herb sauce.

Favorite salads at lunch or dinner include the Oceans salad with bay shrimp, chopped tomatoes and capers tossed with balsamic vinaigrette; and Ocean’s version of Caesar salad, classically prepared with anchovies.

Not a fish lover? Oceans also offers a rack of New Zealand lamb marinated with fresh herbs; grilled veal chops, and a petit filet mignon, aged 30 days and chargrilled, served with a wild mushroom sauce.

In addition to the regular menu, Oceans offers daily specials like lobster Caesar salad, Manhattan clam chowder, blackened cat fish, and lobster penne pasta.

Oceans serves premium spirits and an extensive wine list that thoughtfully reflects California’s central and northern wine regions and comparable wines from Italy, South Australia and Argentina.

The cozy restaurant offers several well-placed tables in the main dining room and along the wrap-around covered patio with twinkle lights, misters and heaters, and in the Adriatic room for private events or overflow seating.

Lunch Bev ocean salad, me fried oysters. Both loved the meal. Definitely would come again.
We had dinner there last night & the service was very good & very personable. It's small and cozy feeling with a friendly vibe. Everything was fresh...I had the Caribbean Lobster Tail & it was marinated & grilled perfectly... Also very large! It was very good & I will definitely go back!
Love, love, love this place! FCW has said it all!!! (see his review) The only thing that I will add is...you gotta try this place...excellent service, excellent food, and nice atmosphere. Plenty of parking...I would suggest reservations on a Friday/Saturday night...You will be surprised with this restaurant...a little gem in the desert.
Delicious San dabs and sauted oysters. Tucked away in a shopping center, it's probably unlikely that someone would "stumble" on this place. Very nice atmosphere and great service.
Great seabass, excellent service... Overall, very tasty, casual, lucky find. Decor could be updated a bit (nicer looking chairs), but hey, we we're there to eat. The place caters to their regulars. It was a tad more expensive than I expected.
Best sand dabs in the desert! Oceans is a "blue collar" Pacifica. Good raw oysters and fish, at reasonable prices. Very consistent. We've come four years in a row, and the food and service never waver.
I had the seafood pasta with marinara sauce. The clams and mussels were much fresher than average but nothing amazing. The pasta was not al dente so to me it was a bit overcooked. The sauce was tasty. Overall enjoyable meal.
This is one of the locals' secrets. Bakir is a genuinely charming and gracious host/owner. Sometimes his mom will make homemade grape leaves stuffed with something yummy. But the fish is always the star. They have been one of the best kept secrets of the desert since they opened in '96. And their food has always remained outstanding despite chef changes, etc. They are one of the very few places in the desert that has abalone on a frequent basis - and they know how to prepare it perfectly. They make the *best* classic Caesar salad. Romaine leaves served whole and chilled crisp. The dressing is perfect - and they are happy to add extra anchovy, should you wish. So few places can do this classic preparation any more. Also, they have a back room that works well for groups. This is the sort of place where the other Chef's go to eat. Spectacular value, excellent food and a very laid back atmosphere with attentive staff and an on site owner who makes certain everything remains that way.
Today we did our obligatory once a month trip into Palm Springs. When our mission was accomplished, we looked for a restaurant in which to have our first food of the day. Traveling toward home I spied Oceans and remembered that I had read affirmative reviews. It was two o'clock and a breeze to park. Only one table was occupied in the main room, which contains eight tables. Considering the hour it was not too surprising that there was a dearth of diners. A little later a lone woman came in to eat. The decor is the all too prevalent southwestern colors, pink and aqua with white tables and chairs. Boring, but neat and clean with cloth tablecloths and napkins. The lunch menu is not extensive but there is a good choice of salads, fish, lamb chops and hamburgers. My choice was the blackened salmon and my husband decided on the sandabs piccata. I usually avoid the blackened items on the menu, having the idea that possibly if the food is burnt, it can be served with impunity. This salmon was beautifully colored and cooked to perfection. Both entrees were served on a bed of pasta, prepared deliciously with chunks of tomato throughout. The waiter brought, along with our drinks, bread and a dish of the most delectable dipping oil containing very finely chopped garlic and spices. Very flavorful. We both cleaned our plates and agreed it was one of the best meals we have had.
